The NovaDatum DataModel

The NovaDatum Datamodel has been designed to support the Global trading activity of an organisation. It consists of four logical sections:-

Static Data

Transactional Data

Positions & Profit/Loss

Accounting

Static Data

Simple Customer Outline

The Global Static Data part of NovaDatum supports a single world-wide view of customers and their hierarchy, no matter what role they are taking. All changes to sensitive static (and transactional) data are stored on-line for a user defined period.

The asset part of the database allows for all assets to be issued by a customer and is sophisticated enough to handle complex securitised debt, such as bonds and equities, as well as the simpler products.

Transactional Data

As Assets can be issued by 'customers' this allows NovaDatum to handle up to four customers associated with a trade (excluding guarantors) you, the counterparty and the issuers of the two assets involved.

How Transactions are Defined to NavaDatum

Transactions are defined to NovaDatum as being made up of one or more components. These components are themselves made up of events which are individual or schedule based cash (or asset) flows.

The use of these six basic component classes, together with schedules for Interest and Principal movements etc. allows for ALL types of transactions to be defined and captured.

Every component defined within a transaction will create a position record (two in the case of foreign exchange cross deals) which can be marked to market and/or straight line amortised and/or theoretically valued (Net Present Valued).

Accounting
How Accounting Entries are Defined to NovaDatum

Accounting entries are defined to NovaDatum at the event level of a component, and are time dependent e.g. the accounting for events that have not matured is different than for those events that have settled.
