UNIX System Management Tools NovaSpool - Print SpoolingNovaSpool enables the user to initiate, monitor and control all aspects of print management using clearly defined screens and simple to use menus. NovaSpool can control all types of printers. It also enables new printers to be added to a system with the minimum amount of effort. Printers connected to terminal servers and networks are supported by NovaSpool as are multiple hosts. The physical location of the printers and hosts can be transparent to the user. Contained within NovaSpool is a powerful monitoring system. This system is capable of controlling all aspects of printer management, through a simple, menu driven, interface. Features available include :-
NovaBatch - Job SchedulingNovaBatch enables users to initiate, monitor and control the execution of jobs in a batch/background environment. Jobs are submitted to NovaBatch specifying the program(s) to be run and the names of other jobs to be initiated upon successful completion. NovaBatch then searches the job queue and selects the next job to be executed, based on job priority and availability. The number of 'slots' or 'streams' that can be active at any one time can be specified so that jobs can run concurrently, e.g. six active slots would allow six jobs to run simultaneously. Jobs can be submitted in 'deferred mode', which means that jobs can be run at pre-determined times, either as one-offs, or on a regular basis e.g. daily weekly etc or they can be submitted in a 'Held' status, and then automatically released upon the successful completion of another job. 'Departments' can be set up, each with the full functionality of NovaBatch but operating autonomously of each other. Therefore, different parts of an organisation can have their own environment although they are all using the same system. Once jobs have completed, information about them is stored in a log file. This log file is available for interrogation and can be used as an audit trail. Job status information is available upon completion and can be used to determine if the job terminated successfully or not. NovaBatch monitors the status of jobs in the system. Users can display either all jobs in the system or selectively by status e.g. Active, Running, Deferred etc. All of the these facilities are managed via clearly defined, simple to understand screens and menus.
